When I look at the top symptoms my clients come to see me for – one that invariably comes up as a major problem is fatigue! So, if fatigue plagues you – here is my daily routine that will keep you energized all day long!

I start my morning with a cup of warm water and lemon juice, I gently sip on it for about 15 minutes. I drink through a straw as the acidity from the lemon can play havoc with the enamel in my teeth. This wakes up and hydrates the digestive system.

I really like the taste of coffee but as a Vata-Pitta, I have to be careful not to drink too much, so I make a latte with steamed milk and ghee. It’s delicious!!! Not sure how to do this? Check out my link here on adding ghee to your coffee.

Then, I make scrambled eggs, avocado, and a slice of wholewheat toast or I may have a bowl of seasonal fruit and a slice of toast and ghee. As ghee is cooling and a natural probiotic, it’s a good way to start my meals. It’s so easy to make ghee and you can watch my video here on how to make it here.

For lunch, I will stop and take a break – no matter how busy I am. Sometimes it’s just 15 minutes, but I put down my tools and sit on my deck or take my dog (who is always after a walk) for a stroll. The break at midday from work is really important. I have found that when I do not take a break – I get sluggish mid-afternoon and start hunting for a pick-me-up. It’s summer right now, so I’m enjoying summer salads which normally means cooked veggies (for me), and a little protein like tuna or chicken. About an hour after my lunch, I’ll grab some fruit maybe half of a banana with almond butter, or a mango – which I can’t seem to get enough of!

At the end of my day, I will pack up my work, make a list of what is outstanding to tackle first thing the next morning and shut off all electronics. I thoroughly enjoy the transition from work to play as I walk my dog for a longer walk. I’ll take the time out to see what is new, what new flowers are popping out. Are the swan’s babies getting bigger – and how is the water looking today. I am lucky as I live in a  beautiful part of the country. But, wherever you are – it is important to get out in nature each day.

For dinner I’ll have a light meal, maybe a summer soup, some grilled veggies and a light fish. I do like the sweet taste, so I will often finish with a dessert like these Summer Fresh Crepes or Coconut Energy Balls.

It’s easy to start the day energized and then start feeling fatigued as the stress of the day wears on you. I find that almonds are a great choice for me. A handful of almonds with some lime water in the summer and ginger water in the winter keeps me hydrated and energized.

Many of my clients tell me they are too busy to keep fit – and it is hard to find the time to exercise. I know it seems that we end up chasing the day – so where on earth is the time to exercise.

However, it’s important to move and it is easier in the summer time to get out and be active. I walk my dog 3 times a day – so that helps. There are huge benefits to walking, I have written about the 7 ways walking can improve your life – so check it out, you will be surprised at how much that can help.

Try something that is fun. I have just taken up kickboxing and I love it even though it’s a challenge. We start with 15 minutes of high intensity training and each time I go – I think I’m going to pass out. However, I have noticed, my mood is better, I am toning up more and I’m really enjoying my work-out. Now kickboxing may not be your ‘cup of tea’ but, walk, hike, bike, swim, dance – just get moving!

I am asked a lot about how I stay balanced in my life.

Well, I unplug by taking my dog Bailey for a hike along the cliffs in Newport – or I walk along the bay. I carry my phone to take pictures of interesting things – but I do set it on “do not disturb”. Spending time in nature calms my central nervous system and allows me to gain a good perspective on things.

As a Vata-Pitta, I can become intense and critical when under stress – the feeling of the sun, the gentle breeze and the sound of the birds has a wonderfully soothing way of letting me unwind.

I also go to bed around 10pm. I used to stay up till 2 am, in fact I thought I did my best work late at night. I did not realize that I was in Pitta time, and whilst productive – was hurting my immune system.

Now sometimes my routine varies – and that is okay! But essentially if I stay with my daily routines, I am happy, healthy, balanced and energized.
