We’re a nation obsessed with youth. Each year Americans spend billions of dollars on beauty products to prevent their skin from aging. Yet, even if you’re not actively trying to look like you did 10 years ago, chances are you want to at least feel, and possibly think, younger. Who doesn’t?
“There seems to be a point where people realize that their previously youthful bodies—and minds—are changing, and they want to get back to where they were. Well, that’s quite normal. What isn’t normal—or needn’t be—is the notion that aging has to be filled with inevitable aches and pains. We shouldn’t expect that we’ll get old and decrepit and that our bodies should hurt, we don’t need to suffer inordinately. That’s not necessarily the reality of aging. Not according to Ayurveda, anyway.” Says Hilary Grivaltis from Kripalu. So what does help?

But what is the one anti-aging secret that I can give – that will make all the difference?
It’s Rehydrate from the inside and outside!
Oh but I drink lots of water, I hear you say! First of all, it's important to moisturize your skin from the inside to provide necessary nutrients and to keep the inner layers of the skin from drying out. Drink lots of water, but add some spices to the water to help the water get absorbed and transported to the skin.
Kapha skin types should steep 2 thin slices of fresh ginger root, 2 basil leaves, 2 whole cloves, 1/2 teaspoon of whole cumin seeds and 2 pinches licorice powder in hot water and sip hot through the day.
For pitta types steep 2 pinches of Indian sarsaparilla powder, 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds, 2 pinches of licorice powder, 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds and 1/2 teaspoon of coriander seeds in hot water, to be drunk at body temperature throughout the day.
And Vata types will benefit from a mixture of 1/2 teaspoon whole cumin seeds, 1/2 teaspoon whole coriander seeds, 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds, 3 pinches of ashwagandha root powder and 1 pinch whole root licorice powder in hot water, to be drunk warm as needed through the day.
